Abstract: Purpose
This specification provides a standard for the manufacture, performance, inspection, and procurement of a series of numerically controlled, horizontal and vertical spindle, knee and bed type profilers. This standard lists minimum requirements and is not to limit design advances.
Classification
The machines shall be of the following types, sizes, and classes.
Type
I Knee Type – Vertical
II Knee Type – Horizontal
III Bed Type – Vertical
IV Bed Type – Horizontal
Size
Small, medium, and large per Section 3.2.
Class
Numerically controlled, three axes, AIA Class IV Contouring and Profiling.Intended Use: The machines described by this specification are intended for use within the aerospace industry and provide the preferred characteristics for efficiently machining all aerospace materials, including aluminum, magnesium, steels, super alloys, refractories and other thermal resistant materials.
