SD42 SUBSA/PFMI FRACTURE CONTROL PLAN
Organization:
MSFC - NASA - MSFC - Marshall Space Flight Center
Year: 2001
Abstract: SCOPE/PURPOSE
This document shall define the elements of the fracture control plan for the Microgravity Science Glovebox (MSG) investigations, "Solidification Using a Baffle in Sealed Ampoules (SUBSA)" and "Toward Understanding Pore Formation and Mobility During Controlled Directional Solidification in a Microgravity Environment Investigation (PFMI)". This document shall also define the responsibilities for managing and accomplishing the fracture control plan, including the methods and procedures to be used to implement this document.
This plan shall be submitted to the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) Fracture Control Board (FCB) for approval. This plan shall also be submitted to the Payload Safety Review Panel for approval as part of the Payload Safety Reviews.
The following sections shall describe the SUBSA & PFMI payload components, the method used to screen them for fracture control, the fracture control classification assigned to them, and our implementation plan for accomplishing the fracture control plan.
