Measurement and Signature Intelligence (MASINT)

Abstract: PURPOSE.
This Instruction reissues DoD Instruction (DoDI) 5105.58 (Reference (a)) to establish policy, assign responsibilities, and provide instructions for MASINT management in accordance with the authority in DoD Directive (DoDD) 5143.01 (Reference (b)) and consistent with DoDD 5105.21 (Reference (c)).
APPLICABILITY. This Instruction applies to:
OSD, the Military Departments, the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Joint Staff, the Combatant Commands, the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Defense, the Defense Agencies, the DoD Field Activities, and all other organizational entities within the Department of Defense (hereafter referred to collectively as the "DoD Components"). The term "Military Services," as used herein, refers to the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, and the Marine Corps (including Active and Reserve Components).
Other non-DoD Governmental entities that are conducting MASINT under Secretary of Defense authority.
