PLASTIC SHEET, ACRYLIC, MODIFIED

Organization:
NAVY - AS - Naval Air Systems Command
Year: 1998

Abstract: This specification covers optical quality, transparent, modified acrylic plastic sheet.
The plastic sheet is furnished in the following types and classes (see 6.2).
The types of plastic sheet are as follows:
Type I - For "as cast" applications or for stretching. Type II - For "as cast" applications only; not for stretching.

The classes of plastic sheet are as follows:
Class 1 - Standard moisture absorption resistance. Class 2 - Improved moisture absorption resistance.

Beneficial comments (recommendations, additions, deletions) and any pertinent data which may be of use in improving this document should be addressed to: Commander, Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Code 414100B120-3, Highway 547, Lakehurst, NJ 08733-5100, by using the Standardization Document Improvement Proposal (DD Form 1426) appearing at the end of this document or by letter.
Intended Use: The modified acrylic plastic sheet is used in the production and maintenance of military aircraft exposed for prolonged periods to extreme seagoing environments not encountered by civilian aircraft. It is superior to conventional acrylic plastic sheet for craze and heat resistance. The intended use of the plastic sheet is for canopies, cockpit windows, and cabin windows that require a transparency with excellent optical, formability, outdoor weathering, and craze and heat resistant characteristics. Type II material is not intended for use in stretching operations to produce sheets and forms conforming to MIL-PRF-25690.
