NASA MPR 8040.1 REV E

CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT, MSFC PROGRAMS/PROJECTS

Organization:
MSFC - NASA - MSFC - Marshall Space Flight Center
Year: 2008

Abstract: PURPOSE
The purpose of this Marshall Procedural Requirement (MPR) is to provide a consistent and systematic method for Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) programs, projects, and activities to plan, develop, implement, and maintain configuration management (CM) systems. NASA CM requirements originate in NPR 7120.5D, which applies to programs/projects and activities, NPR 7120.5C, which applies to nonspace flight programs/projects and activities, and NPR 7123.1. MSFC CM requirements originate in MPD 1280.1, and MPR 7120.1. This MPR addresses the planning and implementation of the basic CM functions: CM Planning, Configuration Identification, Configuration Control, Configuration Accounting, and Configuration Verification and Audits.
APPLICABILITY
This MPR applies to the personnel, programs, projects, and activities at MSFC and MSFC's Michoud Assembly Facility, including contractors and resident agencies to the extent specified in their respective contracts or agreements. ("Contractors," for purposes of this paragraph, include contractors, grantees, Cooperative Agreement recipients, Space Act Agreement partners, or other agreement parties.)
This MPR shall apply to all MSFC programs/projects initiated after September 1, 1997, beginning during the formulation phase and continuing throughout their program/project life-cycle. MSFC programs/projects initiated before September 1, 1997, which have an approved CM Plan (CMP), are exempt from the requirements of this MPR. The CM requirements contained in this MPR apply to flight, qualification, and protoflight hardware/software, designated development hardware/software, configuration item (CI)-associated support equipment, and CI-unique facilities.
