description abstractThis specification covers the development of standardization plans by contractors developing weapon systems and major related items for the Naval Air Systems Command. It applies to the standardization of parts, materials, processes, and reparable components/equipments during development. Intended Use: This specification is intended to be used to promote commonality among weapon systems, improve item entry control, and reduce logistics support problems and costs by providing for the reuse in new design of those items already established in, and supported by, the Government supply system. This specification is intended to be referenced in large dollar value hardware development contracts, Project Manager's Charters, Project Master Plans, Technical Development Plans, Advance Procurement Plans, and other phases of concept formulation or contract definition. It is not intended to be referenced in commodity specifications or in contracts where a fixed design has previously been established. The standardization program plans developed under this specification by the contractor during the definition phase may form a part of the system or hardware specification.
