DEHYDRATOR, LOW PRESSURE AIR, FOR SPECIAL APPLICATIONS

Organization:
NAVY - SH - Naval Sea Systems Command (Ship Systems)
Year: 1987

Abstract: This specification contains requirements for an automatic dehydrator for use in low pressure air systems. The dehydrator shall remove particulate matter, aerosols (see 6.5) and water vapor from influent low pressure air and furnish clean, dry air as specified herein for use in pressurizing radar equipment, waveguide transmission systems, steam propulsion plant control systems, operating automatic combustion control and other special low pressure air applications. The dehydrator shall be designed for both continuous and intermittent operation. The word "dehydrator" denotes the entire complex of equipment throughout this specification.
Dehydrators are classified as follows:
The dehydrator shall be of the following types, as specified (see 6.2.1):
Type I - Refrigeration. Type II - Heater self-reactivating desiccant.

The nominal capacity (nominal effluent air flow rate) for the dehydrator shall be of the following classes as specified (see 6.2.1):
        Class 3 - 30 standard cubic feet per minute (ft3/min). Class 5 - 100 ft3 /min. Class 7 - Special, nominal capacity as specified (see 6.2.1).

Beneficial comments (recommendations, additions, deletions) and any pertinent data which may be of use in improving this document should be addressed to: Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command, SEA 55Z3, Department of the Navy, Washington, DC 20362-5101 by using the self-addressed Standardization Document Improvement Proposal (DD Form 1426) appearing at the end of this document or by letter.
Intended Use: Dehydrators covered by this specification are intended to remove particulate matter, aerosols and water vapor from influent low pressure air and to furnish clean, dry air for use in pressurizing radar equipment, wave-guide transmission systems, steam propulsion plant control air systems, operating automatic combustion control and other special low pressure air applications.
