UL Standard for Safety Nonmetallic Containers for Waste Paper - Third Edition; Reprint with revisions through and including March 19, 2013

Organization:
UL - UL
Year: 1993

Abstract: These requirements cover portable, nonmetallic containers for waste paper intended primarily for temporary, indoor storage of waste paper and other similar materials. These containers are intended to be emptied regularly and their contents disposed of.
Nonmetallic containers for waste paper are investigated with regard to their ability to contain burning paper without contributing fuel to the fire. Observations regarding other risks, including the physiological effects, in any form, resulting from combustion of the container to any degree and regarding the efficiency or effectiveness of the container and its intended use, are not within the scope of these requirements.
These requirements cover nonmetallic containers with a capacity of 8 gallons (30 L) or less. Larger containers will be investigated using these and additional requirements, as applicable.
Containers covered by these requirements may be either wholly or partially formed of molded polymeric material.
A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this standard, and that involves a risk of fire or of electric shock or injury to persons shall be evaluated using appropriate additional component and end-product requirements to maintain the level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this standard. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this standard does not comply with this standard. Revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development, revision, and implementation of this standard.
