Abstract

This Standard specifies photometric performance requirements for highmast luminaires that are used for roadway applications.&#160; <br>The following light sources are addressed in this Standard: <br>a) clear HPS lamp; <br>b) clear metal halide lamp; and <br>c) LED. Note: Future editions of this Standard might include other light sources. <br>This Standard applies to highmast luminaires used along freeways in standard layout arrangements.&#160; <br>This Standard is based on <br>a) average luminance, average illuminance, luminance uniformity ratio, illuminance uniformity ratio, and veiling luminance ratio as defined in ANSI/IES RP-8; <br>b) rated lamp watts and rated lamp lumens for HID sources; <br>c) rated luminaires watts and rated luminaires lumens for LED sources; <br>d) absolute photometry for LED sources as per IES-LM 79; and <br>e) light trespass criteria (eye illuminance and luminous intensity) as per IES TM-11. 1.5 In this Standard, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard. <br>Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. <br>Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. <br>Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application. <br>The values given in SI (metric) units are the standard.
