Abstract: The steer unit covered by this specification is intended for use as a steer unit for the Armored Combat Earthmover M9 ACE. The steer unit is a two-speed, double-output gearbox, manually controlled for manipulating track laying vehicles, and includes a bevel gear set, clutch brake and geared steering systems, and full vehicle brakes. Intended Use: This specification covers a steer unit, capable of performing steering and braking functions, for the Armored Combat Earthmover (M9 ACE). Since the design of this steer unit is solely configured for use on the M9 ACE, thereby having no commercial equivalent, this item is military unique.
