Abstract: Purpose
The aim of AJP-3.3.3 - Air-Maritime Co-ordination (AMC) is to form a bridge between AJP-3.1 - Allied Joint Maritime Operations and AJP-3.3 - Joint Air and Space Operations Doctrine. Used in conjunction with ATP-3.3.3.1 - Air-Maritime Co-ordination Procedures (AMCP), this document replaces ATP-34(B) Tactical Air Support for Maritime Operations (TASMO). This document is intended as a ready reference for both the aviator and the maritime warfare officer. Although not all encompassing, they provide the user with the most important and commonly used aspects of AMC and AMCP. Air-Maritime, in the context of this document, identifies the co-operative nature of missions employing air and maritime forces as mutually supporting elements.
Although AJP-3.3.3 is primarily intended for NATO forces, the doctrine is also applicable to operations within the framework of a Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) in a multinational force of NATO and non-NATO nations.
Exclusions. This publication does not include procedures for AMC in an Amphibious Objective Area (AOA); these procedures are detailed in ATP-8.
Reference Publications and Abbreviations. Reference Publications and Abbreviations can be found in Annexes A and B.
TASMO. The term TASMO is no longer valid; it is superseded by AMC and/or AMCP.
General Terms/Descriptions
This document predominantly uses those terms and descriptions defined in NATO Capstone and Keystone Doctrine. However, there are some subjects for which AJP-3.3.3 is the source document and as such, uses some terminology deriving from BI-SC Directive 80-80.
This document uses the following generic terms:
a. Air Component Commander (ACC) refers to either the static ACC or the Joint Force Air Component Commander (JFACC).
b. Maritime Component Commander (MCC) refers to either the static MCC or the Joint Force Maritime Component Commander (JFMCC).
c. Air Operations Centre (AOC) refers to either a Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) of the NATO Command structure or an AOC/Joint Air Operations Centre (JAOC) embedded in a joint force HQ.
