scope1.1 This terminology, is a compilation of definitions and acronyms from the terminology sections of standards developed by ASTM Committee E50, related to climate and community such as: 1.1.1 climate change phenomena; 1.1.2 relevant vulnerabilities; 1.1.3 risks, and impacts relating to human communities; and 1.1.4 the forms of response that can improve outcomes for a given community. 1.2 If a specific ASTM International standard uses a term in a different context than is used in this terminology guide, then the term shall be defined in that standard. A term used only in a specific ASTM International standard need not be included in this terminology. 1.3 This terminology uses plain language definitions that are primarily intended to help individuals in communities understand and communicate basic climate concepts. Definitions of terms used in legally binding regulations or in financial requirements, such as environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosures may need to be more technically precise or tailored to the relevant context. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
