description abstractThis method covers the determination of the particle size distribution of granular soil material. This method utilizes the 6.3-mm sieve size for separation purposes. However, the sample tester may use an alternative sieve size (i.e., 4.75 mm, 2.00 mm, etc.). In this case, the alternative sieve size used must replace the 6.3-mm size throughout this procedure.
Specifications for granular soil material, which reference this method, usually contain grading requirements that include both coarse and fine fractions in sizes between 100 mm and 0.075 mm.
The standard may involve hazardous materials, operations, and equipment. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to consult and establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
