Abstract: This specification covers special shall size 8 miniature electrical connectors for use on space vehicles, while exposed to earth atmosphere, space vacuum, or crew compartment environment. The environmental connectors utilize removable crimp type contacts and mate with the hermetic receptacles.
Service rating The minimum flashover potential service rating of each insert arrangement shall be as shown in Appendix A.
Wire sealing range (class E) The connector shall provide effective moisture sealing for the range of wire insulation diameter of 0.040 inch O.D. minimum to 0.071 inch O.D. maximum. Connectors shall meet the requirements specified herein with any combination of wire whose insulation diameters fall within the specified minimum and maximum dimensions, or any combination of wire or grommet sealing plugs.
Current rating The electric current rating of the size 20HD contact is governed by the heating effects of the electrical load and ambient temperature. The connector may have any combination of electrical loading and ambient temperature provided the shell, contact, or insert temperature does not exceed 200ºC (392ºF). The maximum test current for standard room ambient conditions should not exceed 7.5 amperes to avoid exceeding the specified millivolt drop.
