Abstract

<u>Purpose</u>. This document outlines standard processes for the development and documentation of military packaging. This standard covers methods of preservation to protect materiel against environmentally induced corrosion and deterioration, physical and mechanical damage, and other forms of degradation during storage, multiple handling, and shipment of materiel in the defense transportation system. A decision chart is included for determining how to develop military packaging requirements (<u>see figure 1</u>). If military packaging is applicable, figure 1 will further aid in the development of detailed packaging requirements. <br><u>Applicability</u>.The requirements of this standard apply to items for which military packaging is required to meet operational demands. These items include but are not limited to: <br>a. Items delivered during wartime for deployment with or sustainment to operational units <br>b. Items that are depot level repairables <br>c. Items requiring reusable containers <br>d. Items intended for delivery-at-sea <br>e. Security Assistance/Foreign Military Sales/Grant Aid (unless otherwise directed by the destination country)<b><u>Intended Use:</u></b> Detailed descriptions regarding the intended use of this standard can be found within 1.1, 1.2, and 6.11.<br>
