Abstract: This specification covers the requirements for the 5-inch, 54- or 62-caliber steel cartridge case, herein referred to as the "cartridge case". Intended Use: The Mark 9 Mod 3 steel cartridge cases, when assembled with their appropriate primers, plugs and propellant charges form complete charges which are used to fire the family of projectiles available for the Mk 45 gun mounts. The Mark 9 Mod 3 steel cartridge cases are designed for military use and have no equivalent commercial application.
