Lessons Learned - Payload Bay Door Cycling

Organization:
NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
Year: 1992

Abstract: Description of Driving Event:
Platforms 11A-1 and 11A-6 were retracted to support payload bay door opening. The platforms were not able to be extended for personnel access in support of aft propulsion system pod activities due to an interference when the orbiter payload bay doors were being cycled open and closed. Contact due to interference may cause damage to the payload bay doors and orbiter or personnel may be injured.
