Adhesive-bonded single-lap joints

Abstract: This report presents analyses of the influence of a variety of factors on the strength of adhesive-bonded single-lap joints. The classical approach of Goland and Reissner is improved and extended. A deficiency in their determination of the critical bending moment in the adherends at the ends of the overlap is overcome. Additional factors included in the analyses are adhesive plasticity (in terms of the Douglas elastic-plastic approach), stiffness imbalance between the adherends, and the influence of laminated filamentary composite adherends (as distinct from isotropic metal adherends).
