Lessons Learned - Undetected GH2 Release in the OPF

Organization:
NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
Year: 1992

Abstract: Description of Driving Event:
After landing and prior to fuel cell deactivation, PRSD tank pressures normally will increase. The GH2 pressure will vent from the right side of the orbiter when pressures reach approximately 290 psi. This venting has occurred during roll-in of the orbiter to the OPF and could cause a fire if an ignition source is present.
