There are more than 6 million miles of distribution lines and more than 200,000 distribution circuits in the United States. Automation can improve the speed and accuracy of these key distribution functions to deliver reliability and resilience improvements and cost savings to customers. It is important to distinguish between resilience and reliability in electric systems. Reliability is the ability of the power system to deliver electricity in the quantity and with the quality demanded by users essentially 24/7
