Abstract: This specification covers the requirements, examinations and tests for the M257 Illuminating Flare and the M278 Infrared Flare, both components of the Hydra 70 rocket system. It covers the quality assurance provisions and special test requirements not covered by the drawings for parts and assembly of the M257 and M278 IR flare warheadsIntended Use: The warheads covered in this specification are the M257 Flare and the M278 IR Flare. Both warheads are intended for use as part of the Hydra 70 Rocket System. Both warhead are to be used in either Army packing and packaging or Navy containers.".
