Abstract

This guide is intended to provide assistance, primarily to authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), in evaluating the appropriateness and execution of a fire risk assessment (FRA) for a given fire safety problem. While this guide primarily addresses regulatory officials, it also is intended for others who review FRAs, such as insurance company representatives and building owners. <br><strong>Purpose.</strong> <br>This guide is intended to assist with the evaluation of FRA methods used primarily in a performance-based regulatory environment. While the primary audience is anticipated to be authorities having jurisdiction, it is expected that the guide will be a useful resource for anyone conducting an FRA. This guide does not mandate the methods for use in demonstrating acceptable risk; rather, it describes the technical review process and documentation that are needed in evaluating an FRA.
