GUIDE TO THE GENERAL STYLE AND FORMAT OF S1000D TECHNICAL MANUAL DATA MODULES

Abstract: This handbook provides guidance for the development of Army publications in Extensible Markup Language (XML) in accordance with S1000D and MIL-STD-3031. The handbook is designed to support the requirements contained in MIL-STD-3031 and provides guidance, tutorials, and examples to aid publication developers in the publication development process. This handbook is for guidance only and cannot be cited as a requirement.
Purpose.
The purpose of the handbook is to facilitate the work of publications developers and users responsible for creating or using XML publications in compliance with the requirements of MIL-STD-3031. It is designed to be a guide for use by publications developers and users to allow maximum reuse and sharing of common publications' source data.
This handbook provides expanded Army-specific information and guidance to supplement S1000D and MIL-STD-3031.
Display output will vary depending on publishing processes and viewer capabilities, therefore, only one possible display output is included.
For information regarding the implementation of S1000D, please refer to the Implementation Guide available from https://www.logsa.army.mil/mil40051/S1000D.cfm.Intended Use: TMs prepared in accordance with the information and guidance contained in this handbook are used to support operation and maintenance of various types of equipment and weapons systems within the Department of the Army.
