Commonly Recognized (CoRe) Structural Elements - Revision 1; Includes 2002 Interim Revision

Abstract: Introduction
This Guide provides a description of structural elements that are commonly used in highway bridge construction and encountered on bridge safety inspections. These elements are termed “Commonly Recognized” (CoRe) structural elements because of their nationwide recognition and use. The element descriptions were developed by a task group made up of bridge engineers from six State highway agencies and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), based on work that was previously done for the Pontis bridge management system. However, the element descriptions are not considered unique to Pontis; rather, they are meant to provide a uniform basis for data collection for any bridge management system and to enable sharing of data among States. All States are encouraged to use the CoRe element descriptions in setting up data collection procedures for bridge management systems.
